Interpreting Highway Spinney
Location: City of Leicester

Braunstone is built on the historic Wynstanley estate, where oak was harvested until the end of the 19th century. Highway Spinney is a semi-natural woodland and was designated a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) in 1999.

The LHI project encouraged the local community to participate in researching the flora and fauna. Local residents worked alongside geologists and nature reserve managers surveying the wildlife and updating the SINC flora list.

Interpretation boards, education packs for local schools, a guide to the nature and heritage of Highway Spinney and a management plan were also produced from the research.
