Urban Woodcrafts
Location: City of Leicester

This project engaged with community youth groups and schools from the area surrounding Watermead Country Park. Young people explored the natural heritage and undertook activities which were traditionally practiced. The project focused not only on the natural heritage but also access to it.

Each group was given the opportunity to experience a day of ancient woodcrafts using materials available from the community woodland which is within the park. They learnt about woodlands, their importance for nature and for people. The groups took materials from the woodland to make traditional woodland products.

Workshops undertaken included charcoal making and willow weaving, and the activities culminated in a barbecue using charcoal produced by participants.
