A victorian artists view of Ocbrook and Dale Abbey in the 1880's
Location: Derbyshire

This project published a book containing prints of recently discovered water-colour sketches of Ockbrook and Dale Abbey parishes. These were painted in 1883-85 by W H Calvert, these previously unknown sketches contain precious information of buildings, the Ockbrook Windmill and rural locations, which have now disappeared or changed drastically since the 1880’s without any other visual record surviving.

The publication also contains a series of present day photographs of the sketches' locations which will record the changes of the last 120 yrs. The accompanying text was derived from current research into the life of the artist and of the historical and architectural details of the subjects of the sketches.
