High Mere Restoration Project
Location: Derbyshire

Villagers of all ages were involved in physically reinstating the Mere which has been without water for many years. The project has raised awareness among local people of the historical and ecological significance of the site and has generated educational opportunities for the children of the village school in a range of ways.

Archaeological research into the history of the Mere has been carried out by the local history group guided by the Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA).

An Archaeologist and a long term maintenance plan for the site was produced with guidance from the PDNPA Ecologist.
