Project update April 2006

Quarndon: Then and Now - A local history book
Location: Derbyshire

The idea for this project came about after an exhibition of the contents of the parish chest. Alongside the contents of the chest, villagers lent photographs, paintings, artefacts and memorabilia for the exhibition, which attracted over 500 villagers and former residents. There was an enthusiastic demand for all the resulting information to be preserved in a fully-illustrated book.

The LHI project enlisted local volunteers in
  • recording and listening to memories,
  • gathering information from Head Teachers' logs
  • gathering minutes of meetings of the Civil & Ecclesiastical Parish as well as local societies,
  • collecting and collating pictures, artefacts and memorabilia in detailed archival research.
