Renishaw Local History Project
Location: Derbyshire

Renishaw, an ex-mining community, faces challenges of changes in demographic make-up, the contrast between existing and incoming wealth and the fact that it is a deprived area for the majority of people.

This project brought together all sections of the community in exploring and celebrating the many aspects of local heritage.

This project was carried out in two stages. The first stage involved gathering memories of local people by local adults and children and production of two high quality books, one for adults, one for children, from edited memories obtained through taped interviews.

The second stage was funded from other sources and involved the production of a play based on the books.
