LHI Progress Report December 2005 – February 2006
Location: Derbyshire
The 16 cupboards in the interpretation coach have now been assembled and fitted and the top has been fitted. The number of the cupboards was a bit daunting at first and even with a production line took more time than expected. Locks have been fitted to all of the cupboards so that artefacts and other items e.g. the ‘library’ can be housed and items rotated on display.
Display boards have been fitted onto the walls and lights have been installed over each board. Some of the display material such as plans of sections of the railway has been hung and detailed plans of the layout of displays and artefacts have been finalised.
Progress has been made with both the screen for the showing of the DVD and also the computer and games (funded by Awards for All), which will also be in the coach.
Filming has proceeded slowly with snow and fog producing conditions that caused delays, but the Town Trail section is complete apart from the commentary, which has been finalised. The railway reminiscences is almost complete apart from some still photos and the tailoring of the original script to the final film. The quarrying section is making good progress, apart from the fog.
The leaflet is in its final draft and will be printed early in March.
More items of historical interest have been donated to the project.
The only problem has arisen out of the need to provide access for the disabled. A new platform has been built by Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Association to provide this access. Unfortunately the ground was found to be unstable and a higher cost (£6,000) than the estimate has been incurred by EVRA in making this provision, as the Association’s contribution to this project.
