Train Ride to History
Location: Derbyshire

The overall project was based on the opening of the historic mineral incline to passenger traffic from Wirksworth to the newly constructed platform at Ravenstor.

The project included interpretation of the quarrying, transport and uses of stone in this area using interpretation panels and audio interpretation at two sites on the train. The group also produced a leaflet and a guided walk.

Interpretation of a narrow gauge railway and a narrow gauge rope tramway, which were used to transport stone to the standard gauge railway in the 19th & 20th centuries were also investigated.

The trans-shipment of stone from narrow to standard gauge railway was illustrated using a static exhibition of both sizes of wagon in situ. Interpretation Panels were erected and the group produced a newsletter, the "Ecclesbourne Express" for one year.
