This project used the reminiscences of people connected with the railways in the High Peak and Buxton areas to raise awareness of the importance of the railways (closed in the 1960s) to the area and to the local industry.
The communities, which are along the old railways, were fully involved in the project. The project group recorded memories and collated historical data. This was transferred into many different media and events in order to include the widest possible audience and benefit visitors to the area.
The project worked on a book, CD ROM, CD and audio tape recordings which will be made widely available. The project also produced a roving exhibition. The book is being sold for a modest fee which will raise income to support future heritage projects.
This project has the support of the Peak District National Park Authority and the County Council who are responsible for the trails which now exist on the line of the old railways.
