Barrow upon Soar Heritage Guides
Location: Leicestershire

Recent research by an archaeology field-walking group has shown the evidence of people in Barrow and the surrounding area from at least the mid stone age. Their most recent find is a potential Roman villa in a field where there is also evidence of a stone age or iron age circular earthwork.

The project aims to undertake geophysical survey of this area and publish a booklet about past habitation and uses of the area. Significantly large areas on the outskirts of Barrow are being planted with native species of trees and shrubs as part of new housing developments and one aspect of the project is to give people a better awareness of their environment by showing them how to recognise native species and also to build upon the County council's scheme of village walks.
