Growing up in World War 2
Location: Leicestershire
The group held an exhibition at Charnwood Museum as part of the VE day 60th anniversary celebrations. The exhibition was created entirely by local community volunteers and coordinated by the Loughborough War Memorial Museum (LWMM).
The exhibition explored the experiences of young people and children during World War 2 in Loughborough and contrasted life from then.
Exhibits were supplied by LWMM and local people, reminiscences and memories were captured through oral history recordings. These included non-British people who were living in Loughborough during wartime, which gave a different perspective through different experiences.
The exhibition ran over the Summer months and created resources including handling boxes of relevant artefacts with clothing from the period and learning packs for use by schools and community groups.
Local sewing groups were recruited to help create clothes for the role play box. A colour booklet "Memories of Growing Up in Wartime Loughborough" was also produced.
