North Kilworth Heritage Project
Location: Leicestershire
This project will research the historical development of North Kilworth. The research will include the unusual layout and street names and the geographical, social, natural and industrial heritage links to the village's development.
Detailed research will include a geophysical survey of the site of the Old Manor House (now a Millennium Green). research into the Washpit site (believed to have been a watering place for cattle using the lost drovers’ road).
The project will identify any parts of the road that still exist and open it up as a footpath. A survey of the natural heritage of the village will be carried out by volunteers under the guidance of a professional ecologist. This will lead to the production of a ecological assessment.
An expert will carry out a hydro-geology report. This will compliment research of the natural heritage and lead to a better understanding of the influence of the hydrog-eology on the villages development.
The information gathered through research will be presented through a website, a CD ROM/DVD, a leaflet and a village display placed in the Village Hall.
Villagers will be kept informed of project progress and activities through the Parish newsletter.
This project complements a Parish Plan currently being undertaken in the village in which there is a strong heritage element.
