WHAT? We plan to investigate aspects of the archaeology, population and land use past and present, to survey vernacular buildings in Staunton Harold Parish. The findings will be made available for the benefit of the local community and, where appropriate, will also be deposited in regional and national archives.
HOW? We shall conduct research in record offices, museums and libraries. We shall photograph and conduct architectural surveys of vernacular buildings. We shall use fieldwalking and geophysical surveys to learn about local archaeology. We shall interview members of the community for an Oral History archive. We shall collate published and unpublished sources relating to the Parish. Through training sessions and workshops locally and in the County we shall enhance the skills of the Group and other members of the local community. WHY? Staunton Harold is a high profile parish in Leicestershire with a rich and distinctive history. Much remains to be discovered and placed on record in an accessible form. The Staunton Harold Heritage Group has been working since 2001 and now wishes to extend its work and skills, to include more members of the community and to share the findings locally and nationally.
