Chaple of St James
Location: Lincolnshire

The Chapel is linked to the newly discovered Chapel of St Mary Magdalen at Partney (excavated 2003). Both are known from documentary sources to have been Cells of Bardney Abbey, both founded by Gilbert of Ghent. The Chapel of St James is an early Christian site in the county possibly even Anglo Saxon.

The group under professional guidance aim to carry out a full survey of the site including aerial photography, geophysical survey, gradiometry/magnetometry, field walking, metal detecting and evaluation trenches. The local community will have training from professional archaeologists in all the above bar aerial photography. This survey work will ascertain the extent of remaining archaeology, evidence of use and occupation and its relation to the cell at Partney and to Bardney Abbey.
