Friends of the Lincoln Tank
Location: Lincolnshire

The first ever tank was designed and developed in Lincoln in 1916. Millions of pounds were given by the civilian population to fund the war effort and the committee of National War Savings rewarded 254 towns in Britain by the presentation of a tank to the Lincoln design.

The project aims to publish a book about the history of the Lincoln tank, containing information on every tank presented. Details of the presentation tanks are contained in council minutes but some of these are now being destroyed. A Lincoln Tank website will be set up at the start of the project to invite feedback from people nationally who have memories/ photographs of the tanks and all information received will be included on this website. An Open Day and exhibitions will be held in Lincoln to invite participation and keep the local community informed of progress.

Links will be made with local schools and history groups and volunteers can learn and improve skills in IT, communication, design and creation of a publication. Copies of the book will be distributed to local libraries, archives, museums and schools.
