Leverton Village History
Location: Lincolnshire

This project has researched the history of Leverton from 1086, with a particular emphasis on the last 100 years.

The project arose from a public meeting which was attended by over 100 people. At the meeting parishioners expressed concern at the danger of ‘losing’ recent local history.

The project involves:
  • a collection of oral histories from local people
  • archive research
  • a collection of contemporary and old photographs
  • a photographic survey
  • drawing comparisons between past and present.

A book of the history of Leverton has been produced and offered for a nominal fee to every household in the Parish. A DVD has also be included with the book which contains still and moving images with a running commentary describing the heritage features of the area as well as the local dialect.

Research has concentrated mainly on the last 100 years, including farming of yesteryear, general village life past and present, and notable people from the area. The group will be holding public meetings and consultation (particularly with the local schools) to encourage the wider community to become involved.
