Domesday Pickworth
Location: Lincolnshire

Domesday Pickworth
Before the Domesday Book (1086), there seems to be no documentary material about Pickworth, though there has been Roman evidence, including iron working in the area; and the name of the village suggests an early Saxon settlement.
In Domesday, Pickworth is recorded as having three landholders, and details of their ox-teams, farmed land and woods are given. The total area is very close to the area of the present parish.
Two intriguing entries: two of the landholders are recorded as each holding ‘half a church’; and there is a reference to a land dispute ‘the like of which is not seen elsewhere in Lincolnshire’.
