Paulerspury Past Evening - 14th November 2003

Paulerspury Progress Report

Paulerspury Progress Report
Location: Northamptonshire

We held the second “Paulerspury Past” on Saturday 31 January and had over 80 people attended. Some came early for information and then returned, having made some investigations on their own, for yet more. Once again we filled the hall with lots of items and ran the slide show of the village through the past 200 years. Several people were able to identify their great relations. Most yearned for the rows of thatched cottages that have been demolished, probably considered to be hovels!!! These “hovels” would be worth £300,000 now!

We offered a prize for the family who could trace their ancestors furthest back. Mr. Bill Lepper came forth with a birth registered in 1730. The £10.00 book prize out of the tea donations.

The draft of the play has been seen by Ed Bloomfield, chairman of the Paulerspury Players, and has been given his approval. Obviously a little tweaking will occur but the story is very good. It will certainly release a few tears in the first half. There is scope for lots of children to participate and they have great plans for video work to be woven in. The sound technician will have a great opportunity for atmosphere. March should see the first read through when the producer will be chosen.

Our next event was on March 12th when Dr. Ridley from the Victorian County History Society came to talk to the village on its past. We advertised it in the village newsletter, everyone had a note delivered to their door and got a reminder during the week of the talk — we all forget! We also put posters up in the surrounding villages. Northampton Radio called us and we were able to have some radio time too.

The print is going very well. We are now getting orders from people who see it in friends’ houses so we shall soon have our new furniture for the school. Rolls Royce Enthusiasts' Club have promised to put it on their shop web site when it is up and running (currently they are having teething troubles) so, ever the optimist, we hope for world wide sales!!

The school has booked its time at Holdenby House. We shall look also for publicity for the school on that day.
