Raunds War Memorials Research Project
Location: Northamptonshire
The group was formed in 2005 with the aim of researching the stories behind the town's war memorial.
By early 2006 it was clear that the subject could be covered more comprehensively via a fully funded, formally planned and managed project.
The "Raunds War Memorials Research Project" (RWMRP) officially began on 1 July 2006, coincidentally also the 90th anniversary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
Over the next 30 months, our objective is to raise the awareness and encourage the involvement of as many members of the local community as possible (individuals, organisations, schools etc) in the project and produce for the town :
* a dedicated website that includes an on-line war memorial.
* a brief guide to the many and varied war memorials that can still be found in the town.
* a detailed "Roll of Honour" in the form of a book of remembrance.
* an account of events that took place in the town and wider world during the Great War.
Phase 1 of the project, the website, is now "open for business" in a preliminary format, SEE "RELATED WEBSITES".
