Rushden Celebrates H.E. Bates
Location: Northamptonshire

H.E. Bates was born in Rushden in 1905 and used the town and surrounding area as the inspiration for many of his novels. The project will commemorate the centenary of his birth by a series of events starting with a launch to invite community participation.

There will be readings and recitals from Bates' works by amateur dramatics group with the community also invited to take part. Workshops will be held in drama, video recording, costume/props and IT for desktop publishing.

Photography & model making workshops will look at the town's architecture now and in 1905 and a trail leaflet will be produced by young people with guidance from Rushden Historical Society.

"Living History" and "Edwardian Music" sessions will be held in all the town's schools to encourage involvement in a re-enactment at the annual "Party in the Park" organised by the Town Council. Exhibitions will be held in Rushden Hall and a souvenir brochure produced.
