TAKE A TRIP AROUND HUCKNALL

Hucknall is a former mining town on the western edge of Nottinghamshire with a strong industrial, cultural and social heritage. The aim of the project is to create and promote two heritage trails in and around the town of Hucknall.

This will be achieved in two ways:
  • through Heritage Trail leaflets
  • utilising community transport to take people to key heritage sites around the town and surrounding villages
    Tours will include:
‘Culture and heritage of the town centre, including the well known Byron heritage, mining and textile history and visits to picturesque villages. Including the ruins of Annesley old church and the countries only surviving (in its original situation) vertical steam engine.

Guided tours will take place on weekends between Summer 2003 and 2004, which will involve a walk around the town trail and heritage bus tours. Funding for future years will be sought from other sources.

There will be consultation with schools to ensure that the heritage trail can be used for education purposes.
