The project is undertaking the restoration of a 19th century brick and sandstone cattle bridge following the style and the scale of the original. The cattle bridge is crossed by four frequently used public footpaths connecting several villages, but at present the bridge is seriously dilapidated.
Surveys have revealed a wealth of stories and reminiscences about the bridge which has many local names, as does the river it crosses. The project is researching, recording and sharing this information through a link with the local school, and via a website.
The project is also giving IT training to villagers and establishing an Internet access point in the local pub. A way mark, made from the original bridge material, is being placed near the restored bridge and a celebratory opening event will be held once the work is complete.
