Discover Milton Ernest
Location: Bedfordshire
The group want to encourage a stronger sense of community in their village, by involving people of all ages and abilities in a common project. They will do this in three ways: producing a booklet giving an historical account of the village, complete with oral history reminiscences and old photos; producing a series of maps with circular walks around the parish; and taking over from Bedford Borough Council management of an area of land adjacent to the river. Their plans for this land are to maintain it as a public open space managed by local volunteers. They will create a wildflower meadow on it and install picnic benches and information boards. Long-term responsibility for this area will be taken on by the parish council, but the work will be done by volunteers.
