This is a view looking north on the football pitch. the survey started on the castle site and moved to the football pitch as this wouldhave been connected to or used by the castle in the past. The survey results confirmed this fact. © S Cooney

Gannock Castle Geophysical Survey
Location: Bedfordshire

29 June 2005
Gannock Castle Geophysical Survey
Venue: Gannock Castle

A geophysical survey of the castle site and adjoining playing field was carried out on 29th June 04 (not 05 as the date above). This took a day to complete and the geophysical engineers kindly stayed on to explain their survey equipment and the results to the villagers. They carried out a Resistivity and Magnetometer survey.

Evidence was found of settlement and farming in the past.

There was great interest from the residents of Tempsford and surrounding villages. Having seen this on television so often, it was exciting to see it live in their own area.
