A Celebration of 80 years of Cambridgeshire Community Life
Location: Cambridgeshire

The applicant is the Rural Community Council for Cambridgeshire, founded in 1924. The project will celebrate rural community life in Cambridgeshire over the last 80 years through a community play and a traditional village fair with traditional games. The play will show graphically the changes in rural life in the county since 1924. Actors will be rural youth theatre groups, plus adult village amateur dramatic groups.

Performances will be accompanied by showings of archive films depicting rural life from the East of England film archive. There will also be an introduction giving the context for the films and play. The fair will be staged at Ramsey Rural Museum and will feature traditional games such as skittles, horseshoe throwing, etc. Local community groups will be invited to enter teams to compete for prizes, and people with disabilities will also be able to take part. Additional exhibits will promote interest in traditional rural crafts and trades, such as farriery and basket-making. Permanent outputs will include a leaflet and a commemorative programme which will give ideas for communities to get involved in their own local heritage
