Ailsworth Community Built Environment Audit
Location: Cambridgeshire

Ailsworth has a long settlement history, and a rich heritage which includes many distinctive buildings of local limestone.

This project is recording the built and natural heritage elements (hedgerows, trees, greens, etc.), which give the village its character and distinctiveness. Furthermore, this project is assessing the historic and current influences that have combined to create the built environment as it is now.

The audit is promoting a wider understanding of heritage and is helping to develop an informed and constructive dialogue with public authorities which will set a baseline against which future plans and proposals can be assessed. Information from the audit is being used to create a single display board in order to interpret the history of Ailsworth and raise awareness of its archaeological, built and natural heritage.

The project is being carried out in parallel with the communities of Castor and Thorney.
