Castor has a rich heritage including nationally important Roman archaeology, one of England's finest churches, and historic model farms and formal parklands.
This project is recording the built and natural heritage elements, which give the village its character. The project is also assessing the historic and current influences, which have created the present built environment.
The audit is encouraging a wider understanding of heritage, is promoting informed and constructive dialogue with public authorities, and is setting a baseline against which future plans and proposals can be assessed.
Information from the audit is being used to create display boards, to interpret the history of Castor's development and raise awareness of its archaeological, built and natural heritage.
The project is being carried out in parallel with the communities of Ailsworth and Thorney.
