Eltisley History Society
Location: Cambridgeshire

This is the second phase of the LHI project. The focus is a programme of research into the history of the village, which is open to all villagers. (Phase 1 published a millennium book about Eltisley).

The Eltisley History Society is undertaking activities which include:

  • a field survey at the site of a deserted settlement,
  • locating the site of a 13th Century nunnery,
  • researching Eltisley men killed in both world wars,
  • holding meetings with speakers about local and family history,
  • undertaking training in archaeological techniques
  • holding storytelling events.
  • The project is producing a booklet and interpretative plaque which explains the avenue of trees planted in Eltisley as a war memorial. Also being produced is a booklet and map explaining the graves in the churchyard and an audio "talking book" version of the book from phase 1. The results of the surveys are presented through interim exhibitions and slide evenings, plus a final exhibition.
