The Buildings Take Shape
Location: Cambridgeshire

WE MOVED THEM !!

The all-important first stage of the project - the dismantling and re-building of the bakehouse and privy - has now been successfully completed. Our contractors, Southlands Properties, have done an excellent job for us, particularly in the rebuilding of the complex oven and flue brickwork.

The reconstructed bakehouse and wash-house is even more authentic than before the project started, as we have been able to re-install original features which had disappeared over the years in the old location. The building now boasts a lovely brick floor of old bricks and we managed to locate and install an old wash-house "copper" and fire door.

Volunteers managed to apply several coats of limewash to both buildings before the frosty weather set in, to get undercoat on any new wood and to apply preservation material to the old internal timbers. The buildings should now be able to face up to the rigours of winter before the final decoration work is carried out in the Spring.

The coming months will see work continuing on the various information display boards and on any necessary renovation of some of the articles which will be on display. We are now on track for a grand opening day with bread baking sometime around Easter.

Congratulations to everyone involved !
