Excavation Techniques Training Day – Sunday 4th April

1st Day of dig

Dig Day 2 – Saturday 22nd May

Sutton Archaeological Dig
Location: Cambridgeshire

The project is a community-based excavation of a Bronze Age round barrow. Group members will attend a formal archaeological field school and will also engage a professional archaeologist to train and supervise them on site.

They will write the academic report themselves, with support from professionals. They will also undertake training in field walking and surveying, desktop research and public speaking. They will hold two public open days, create a travelling exhibition, arrange talks on local history, hold a storytelling event and create a permanent interpretation board about the site.

For local schools, they will arrange educational talks, create a teachers pack and a small display of finds. All parts of the project will be open to all residents, who will be contacted by mail shot to explain the opportunities on offer. The site is not scheduled, and the work is not covered by planning conditions. The group are working very closely with the County Archaeologist, who fully supports this application.
