How we started
Location: Essex
Why the project began
The Parish of Littlebury Millennium Album was published in December 2002, a project which had involved 88 families in Littlebury parish. As it was collated people asked if it would be a history, but that was not deliverable in time as the Millennium project for which it was intended. After its publication however, involving Littlebury parishioners in a history project whereby many hands made light work seemed likely.
How we started
In January 2003 an open invitation was published in the parish magazine to attend a meeting to discuss the prospect of parishioners of the three Littlebury villages, Littlebury, Littlebury Green and Catmere End working together to produce a parish history since none existed. A good attendance indicated that the enthusiasm necessary for such an undertaking was present.
At the first meeting various topics were selected by those present and immediately afterwards a website was set up (which engendered a great deal of interest from those outside of the parish and even abroad). Since the participants selected their own topics there was no notion that the project was homework set by the leaders.
Similarly the ‘voices’ of these authors were not ‘edited’ out. At the same time an application was made for an LHI grant to fund the publication of the work.
