The Preparation
Location: Essex
Before the project could be launched there was an enormous amount of preparation work required. This included researching various materials for making the mosaic and also deciding which production method should be used. One critical activity was making an A3 sample of the mosaic to ensure that we were comfortable with scaling this up to a vast 20 foot by 10 foot.
In addition, we needed to prepare a DVD showing all potential mosaic builders how to build a mosaic in 15 minutes! This was presented by local mosaic artist Anne Schwegmann-Fielding (who will be working with the children to inspire them in designing the companion mosaic and providing advice on mosaic construction methods to the project Manager Peter Herring) and shot by John Jones of the Philip Morant School & College Media Studies department.
