16 September 2005
The Project Launch
Venue: The Philip Morant School & College

The project was launched at The Philip Morant School & College. In the morning, the children were entertained by a roman chariot and horses, driven by local horseman Mr Duncan Drye.

In the afternoon, the artist Peter Froste formally handed the mosaic artwork over to children from Gosbecks Primary School and The Philip Morant School & College. Members of the local community were also present to receive a presentation from Clive Stacey of Colchester Museums on the Roman history of the town and then from Philip Crummy of Colchester Archaeological Trust on the history of the Roman chariot racing circus. Mosaic artwork from local mosaic artist Anne Schwegmann-Fielding was also on display in the school reception area.
