Location: Essex

The Workshop Build

In order to construct the roman mosaic (20 foot by 10 foot) we needed a space big enough to build it. We will build 2 sections - each 20 foot by 5 foot. We therefore needed a temporary workshop 33 foot by 10 foot. To ensure that the workshop would be stable, we first needed to build a concrete foundation. This was generously donated to the project by Andy Hockey and Gavin West of DAG Construction, Stanway, Colchester - with the work being done by Peter & Charlie - see picture.

Once the foundation was cured we then began the process of constructing the workshop. On Friday 30th September a team of volunteers (Eddie Moolman, Mervyn Nunn, David Erdbeer and Shirley Herring) joined the Project Manager, Peter Herring for what was to become a marathon activity. The estimate for the job was 3 man days, but like all flat pack projects this was a total fiction! Some 18 man days later, completion was finally achieved on Tuesday - see pictures for progress.

The final fit-out is now complete, with a hard wearing carpet fitted thanks to an exceedingly generous donation from local carpet supplier and fitter Mr Glenn Jones (Tel 01206 564696).
