King Harold Day
Location: Essex

This project aims to research, interpret and promote Waltham Abbey's historic links to King Harold, the last Saxon King of England, (the abbey church, which he founded, is his reputed burial place), Henry II, Henry VIII and Mary Tudor.

Twelve interpretation panels will be provided in the Abbey Churchyard and Abbey Gardens. They will be researched by the King Harold Day Society, with the help of Waltham Abbey Historical Society, Epping Forest District Museum, Waltham Abbey Town Council, the Lee Valley Regional Park, English Heritage and representatives of the Abbey Church.

The King Harold Day Festival, now in its third year, will be held on 14th October, the 940th Anniversary of his death at the Battle of Hastings.
