Location: Essex

King Harold Day is forging links with other places which feature in the 1066 story. So far, we are exploring Stamford Bridge, Fulford and the Bayeux, Falaise, Caen area of France.

Other Places connected with the 1066 Story

The King Harold Day Society wants to establish links with other places connected with King Harold’s story.

Tricia Gurnett has recently visited Stamford Bridge, where King Harold triumphed in battle over King Harald Hardrada of Norway. She has also established contact with Fulford, where Harold’s northern earls were defeated by Hardrada shortly before. Both these battles preceded the Battle of Hastings.

Meanwhile, Isabelle Perrichon, who is a French national, has been in negotiations with the Falaise, Bayeux, Caen region. She hopes that a delegation from Bayeux will soon visit Waltham Abbey.

Isabelle said, “I arranged for an official letter of invitation to go to the Mayor of Bayeux from the Mayor of Waltham Abbey. The Museum in the town is keen to have a link with us, and I believe that officials from Bayeux will visit us this year.” She adds, “Although I am French, I have lived in England for so long that I fear my French is rusty, so I have recruited my mother to act as my translator in France!”
