Why Hadstock? The dig
Location: Essex
The dig took place between 3rd and 14th October 2005. It was supported by 85 volunteer workers from Hadstock and the surrounding villages and about 30 local children. The generally fine weather, whilst appreciated, had the side effect of slowing down hand trowelling because of the hard earth. Nevertheless, there were about 1000 finds, including plenty of Roman and Mediaeval pottery. Volunteers are continuing to clean, number and record these find, prior to examination by the Field Archaeology Unit's experts.
