Work in progress
Location: Hertfordshire

One of our biggest jobs has been to compile a format for our archive catalogue. We spent many hours working out which would be the best system to use and what information should be included in the catalogue. Eventually, we decided that all the material should be catalogued strictly in accession order on the computer using Word. We have begun filling it in and scanning documents and photographs.

We have now been able to purchase a digital projector which we have been getting to grips with – the quality of the photographs projected is excellent.

May exhibition
Venue: Church House, Kimpton

May Festival exhibitionWith the scanned material, we were able, during the village May Festival, to hold an exhibition of our work. Some of the subjects covered at the exhibition were:

  • Shops
  • The Wren Family Business
  • The Church
  • Kimpton windmill
  • Kimpton pubs
  • Parish Council Minute book

  • slide show using digital projectorDuring the exhibition, we were able to have a slide show running on the digital projector, showing all the photographs which we have so far scanned to the computer. This proved very popular, particularly as it was a welcome relief for some of the older members of the community to able to sit down and look at the photographs!

We also conducted some short interviews with visitors to the exhibition on their memories of Kimpton. These will provide some useful “sound-bites” for our web-site and, in some cases, will lead to more detailed interviews in due course.
