The project's aims are the conservation and interpretation of an 11-acre geological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The project includes heathland regeneration and conservation, which increases the site's biodiversity, and enhances its distinctive landscape character.
The interpretation and educational work is focusing on this, and also on the esker (a rare geomorphological feature of glacial origin), which, uniquely in Britain, has been quarried. This is allowing interpretation of the revealed internal structure, and is facilitating an explanation of how the site was formed.
Interpretation will also relate the local geology to the local flint building traditions through an interpretation theme called "From Ice to Architecture".
A web site with links to other esker sites world-wide is also being created.
