Harleston Resource for Heritage (HRH)
Location: Norfolk

Harleston is a small market town on the Norfolk- Suffolk border a with a very rich heritage of listed buildings dating from the medieval period onwards. The project will establish a digital archive of images, documents and related material such as reminiscences and oral memories, pertaining to listed buildings in the town. This will be made widely available locally and via the Internet. The group will involve local schoolchildren in developing their software, web site, etc., and older residents in giving their reminiscences.

The group feel that Harleston has suffered from its peripheral position as seen from both county centres. This has resulted in economic decline, unemployment and out-migration of young people, etc. The group hope to harness Harleston’s fascinating built and cultural heritage to stimulate sustainable economic development through tourism etc. and to improve awareness and appreciation of this unique cultural asset. They will do this by creating a strategy that shows how their database could be exploited in future, both commercially and by public or voluntary bodies.
