Snapped 1; Snapped 2; Snapped 3
Location: Norfolk

The project is collecting oral reminiscences and stories from 11 different Norfolk and Suffolk communities, mostly in the Broads. The information collected will form the basis for workshops for local people on storytelling using Norfolk dialect and basic musical skills such as keeping rhythm and humming along to traditional tunes.

Local schools will also be involved at this stage. These sessions will act as a consultation process with the communities to allow them to decide which stories they would like to see dramatised. In the final part of the project, selected stories will be woven into a new murder mystery musical which will be performed back to the communities, and visitors, using local pub gardens and outdoor spaces such as parks as venues.

The group will be getting advice on collecting reminiscences from the Norfolk Record Office and the Norfolk Sound Archive, who will receive copies of all the material collected. Apart from this, the project’s permanent outputs will include a video/DVD of the final performance and teacher’s notes on the art of Norfolk storytelling and the local stories collected.

During July and August 2006, Spin-Off Theatre hit the Broads with their new show Snapped Up! (see photos). It's fun for all the family, with songs and frolics from the 1920s - a period of unparalleled frothiness, this is intriguing and uplifting entertainment created from stories mysterious and humorous collected from all over Norfolk and the Broads.
