Wacton Millennium Project
Location: Norfolk

The aim of the project is to restore the front boundary wall of Wacton churchyard. The wall was built in the 19th century and is an important landmark and local heritage feature in the centre of the village. Presently, it is structurally unsound and needs restoration urgently, as it is a retaining wall alongside a highway.

The restored wall will look exactly like the old one, and will re-use the existing bricks. A dilapidated oak paling fence on top of the wall will also be repaired and restored. The names of all those resident in the village at the Millennium will be recorded on stone panels to be built into the restored wall.

The group will also carry out historical research, a survey of gravestones, a wildlife survey in the churchyard, and create an exhibition and a booklet about the church, churchyard and wall. The group has plans for future heritage projects, including restoring a local pond and an ancient drove road.
