Saints and Sinners revived in Parish tours
Location: Norfolk
November 2002
An exciting new project is set to reveal some of Norfolk's hidden history.
The Church Tours Project will focus on folklore surrounding 17 beautiful medieval churches in the Wayland district.
Now the stories, fables, legends and history which surround these churches, some of which date back to the 11th century, will be brought to life in three special church tours, each designed to provide a unique experience for local people, day visitors and tourists alike.
A £19,137 grant from LHI will not only help launch the church tours, being run by the Wayland Partnership Development Trust, but also fund detailed research and help the group to produce booklets, leaflets, interpretation signs, videos and DVDs explaining the churches' timeless appeal. Local people will also be given the opportunity to develop skills in research and writing.
Jan Godfrey, Chair of Trustees at the Wayland Partnership Development Trust said:"The tours will not only examine the architecture - they will be led by local people whose knowledge of the area is second to none. So visitors will be able to hear about the families who have lived, prayed and sinned over the centuries".
