The benefits
Location: Suffolk

As the project has progressed it has become increasingly clear that there are other enormously beneficial spin offs. This has come about thought the involvement of other parties on how best to deal with the footbridge repairs and how to secure the river bank in the immediate vicinity.

In addition to Suffolk County Council's approach to the bridge repairs, it has also refurbished a character victorian bridge and provided some funding towards the refurbishment of a second similar bridge. The Environment Agency has also agreed to replace an ugly and decaying concrete bridge with a brand new bridge that will serve for many years as a link at a point over the river known as the Salmon Leap.

Acquiring match funding towards the various scheme components has been increasingly easy as organisations become keen to be identified with this successful project.

Prior to the LHI project local people showed little interest in volunteering to assist with the work on the Sudbury common lands. During the course of the project large numbers of individuals have been providing volunteer time and labour from a number of organisations.

These include; 3rd Sudbury Cubs, Sudbury Scouts, Sudbury sea scouts, Sudbury round table, Dedham vale project volunteers, the Eden project, Sudbury and district volunteer centre, the Freemen's society and an Otley College student.

In addition ans as a result of the project, a monthly "Riverside projects team" has been set up and is already well established with local individuals coming to enjoy the historic environment, see its interesting wildlife and contribute to the weel being of the area.

To date over 200 volunteers have put in a total of 121 days work, contributing £6,247 worth of volunteer time.
