The Hitcham Roman Villa
Location: Suffolk

Community based archaeological excavation of Roman Villa.

The site has been known about for around 30 years - Roman tiles, pottery and coins had already been found - but it was only possible to investigate when the group was awarded the LHI grant.

The Parish Council is working with members of Suffolk County Council's archaeology team to carry out geographical surveys, metal detecting, field walking and excavations.

Field walking days were held, where members of the community were invited to take part. One famous face, ex Rolling Stone Bill Wyman, joined the effort by taking part in metal detecting.

Events are still being held - see the project's website (link below) for further information.
