Community Lissenden
Location: Camden

Three residential blocks built with in the grounds of an old estate have an active residents’ association which wants to research and celebrate 100 years of the estate, its diverse community through that period, and the lives of men and women on the estate who have contributed to British life and culture over the past century.

The project will start by bringing the residents together to create banners celebrating each of the 20 ‘staircases’ and followed by a community event to launch the project.

Research done by the residents will form the basis of a live interpretation project, Lissenden Lives focussing around ‘ghosts’ of former residents, a photographic exhibition and documentary which will include cross generation interviews.

Three plaques will be unveiled to well known past residents and the schools will host a cultural event based around the material gathered during the project. A book will be produced and all information and the progress of the project will be held on the project’s website, the development of which is hoped will be done through the NBS award.

The project will culminate in 2007 by opening up the 3 residential buildings for London’s annual architectural event Open House in order to share the history with a wider audience.
