Covent Garden and Holborn Young Trails
Location: Camden

60 young people from 6 local primary and secondary schools have investigated and developed historic trails for other young people in the locality. The schools paired up and each produced one of the three trails.

These were;
  • A Victorian trail, where the children explored and compared children's lives from 1880 to the present day
  • A Hidden Holborn trail, which concentrates on un-noticed features in doorways, railings and the old tramway
  • Food of Camden, which explores the links between town and countryside in regards to food production and how it was processed
84 workshops took place so that the young people could develop skills in historical research.

The workshops were run by professionals and supported by the London Transport Museum, Foundling Museum and the British Library. These identified the key historical features in each of the trail topics. Once the research was complete, the schools produced 5000 trail leaflets, which were tested by the Camden older peoples group. The schools also produced an exhibition.
