Queen's Gardens Heritage Project
Location: Croydon
* LHI's 1000th project *
A group of local people with learning disabilities will research the heritage of Queen's Gardens, an 18th century park situated in the middle of Croydon. The group will interview people from police officers to pensioners: the aim is not a chronological interpretation but a wider more personal view of the garden's heritage. the group will produce an educational exhibition of photographs to be displayed in the library and mobile display boards. The exhibition will run 16th Jan 2006 -12th March 2006 at Croydon Clocktower. Please call Action Space for further information on 0207 209 4289.
To ensure high quality outputs the group will attend workshops which will develop their skills and will be facilitated by specialist curatorial and photographic experts who have experience with working with specific learning needs. The group will interview 1500 people and their memories will be recorded and collated by the group with support from an editor, into a booklet that will be distributed freely to visitors of the gardens.
NBS award will be used by the group to buy specialist equipment to enable the group to produce a large part of the exhibition with professional support and tuition and engage in outreach work with other social groups such as older and less mobile members of the community.
