Water theme will flow through historical project to explore Hackney’s cultural diversity

West Reservoir History Project
Location: Hackney

The aim of the project is to research the topic of water in relation to the Victorians who built the reservoir. They will investigate the work of water and conservation issues affecting us today and engage different faiths to investigate the cultural significance of water.

The group will also run a 10 week research programme for local schools and the wider community, training will also be given in IT skills. The final product of this event will contribute to the production of 2000 leaflets and 2 interpretation panels.

The research will be used to produce a website, an exhibition, CD Rom for 100 teachers packs, interpretation panels and leaflets.

A festival of water is also planned which will celebrate different aspects of water in different cultures past and present. It will feature rare species such as otters who would have likely inhabited the water ways and performance workshops celebrating the long and varied history of the reservoir.

Crafts such as basket weaving with water willow will be available for wider community members to investigate and try.
