“Project Reclaim”, Bonneville’s local heritage project, has enabled the school to refurbish their bell tower and buy a specially made new bell, which gives the pupils no excuse to be late ever again! The pergola in the secret garden was urgently in need of a new roof and re-decoration to make it useable; this has been made possible through the LHI grant. A small garden taking Edwardian garden ideas and plants is being created too.

Pupils have been researching links between their own Afro Caribbean heritage and Edwardian plant hunters who sailed to the Caribbean to search out and bring back home new and exotic plants – many of these plants now grace mantle pieces and shelves in their homes.

Learning through Landscapes in London (LtLiL), the school-grounds education charity, are acting as consultants to Bonneville school and arranged the reminiscence event. Three London schools are running local heritage projects, which marry investigating, celebrating and conserving locally important heritage assets with development of their school grounds. Each school has been awarded £20,000 to work in innovate ways to connect to the past through making connections in the present.
